The Mephisto Club A Novel Tess Gerritsen 9780345476999 Books

This is my second Tess Gerritsen book and I've already ordered the rest in this particular series. The author is a masterful storyteller, seamlessly mixing a riveting storyline with an attention to forensic detail that is without error. The book had enough twists and turns to keep the interest of the reader, so much so, I ended up finishing it in one day. I also liked that although I had not read an earlier book in this series, I had no trouble at all becoming familiar with the characters and their relationships as there was just enough backstory given to achieve without detracting from the story.

The Mephisto Club A Novel Tess Gerritsen 9780345476999 Books Reviews

Though this is a well-written novel by famous author Tess Gerritsen, I was surprised and shocked as I found it not suitable to enjoy. I was definitely disappointed and stopped reading it. This book just did not exhibit the quality of her other stories.
As all of Tess Gerritsen’s books this one captures your attention and refuses to be put down. The interplay between Jane and Maura unfolds as does the interaction between Jane’s parents. The main plot involves a 12 year old series of murders and Satanic evil. Whether you believe in God, Heaven, Satan , or Hell this book will keep you up at night turning pages to find out what happens. Great work by a great writer.
Not my favorite book in this series, for sure. This book tackles the occult and demons from pre-Christian times. I guess I don't have that good of an imagination. There was definitely a really bad guy, and Jane Rizzoli got him in the end as expected, but I, like Jane and Maura, don't believe he was anything more than an evil human being!
This was the first Rizzoli & Isles book I have read and I absolutely loved it. I had missed the character development from the previous novels, but thanks to Me Gerritsen's masterful writing, I felt like they were seamlessly inserted into my life. I particularly liked the problem with Jane's parents and Maura's feelings for father Brophy being included so that we could see them as real, flawed people.
I also found the premise of the book to be fascinating. Whether or not there are people sitting around tracking the existence of evil is not for me to say. I suppose if one had the money of Anthony Sansone, the possibility certainly exists. There are certainly no shortages of examples of evil in our society, and as Dominic says to Jane "we are not the only ones."
I was completely surprised by the ending, which is always one of my measuring sticks for a good mystery. There is room left at the ending to 're-visit these themes in the future, and I would definitely be interested in reading that book.
this book reads like a horror novel but is a mystery nonetheless. The author does a nice job developing the characters and it is clear that this tendency began earlier in the series. I started with this book and it worked as a stand alone, but there are references to previous books in the series that loyal readers no doubt recognize.
The story begins with a murder on Christmas Eve that appears to be a satanic ritual. A group of amateur sleuths with a lot of money and less experience become involved making the investigation difficult for the police officer Rizzoli. The medical examiner Isles works with her.
Yes, there are undertones of Patricia Cornwell in this but the author is a medical doctor and her knowledge lends an air of authenticity to the story. Overall, I thought it was a good read. I gave it five stars instead of four because I felt the plot was so tightly woven and masterfully crafted that it made it an excellent, rather than simply a good, read. I plan to go back and read the other books in the series.
A good Rizzoli and Isles book. It is a crime story with a touch of the supernatural. I have read about these creatures from the old testament before. It is as good a reason as any to explain why some people are so utterly evil and corrupt. It was never explained who Mr. Sansone actually was other than he was rich and had influence over government officials. Enjoyed it.
I heard the author speak recently and she said she liked to write scary stories...but she does her research to make things REALISTIC. Dealing with the question " are sociopaths really demons?" she takes her premise from The Book of Enoch, a book not accepted in the Bible. A family is killed one by one, others are killed with lots of blood and dismemberment. Ancient demonic symbols are written on the walls in blood'. What is the connection between all these murders? Rizzo and Frost and Maura Isles are deep into this investigation and finally meet a survivor of the slain family. There is no way to guess what is happening. The Mephisto Club believes in demons; some become victims. The police believe they are seeking a sociopath. Chills and suspense in every book written by Tess. This one deals with especially gory deaths...be warned. Makes me wonder how police deal with man's evil actions day after day emotionally.
