Times of Rebellion A Christian Novel The End Times Saga Book 4 edition by Cliff Ball Religion Spirituality eBooks
This is my first book by Cliff Ball, but his end times series has intrigued me since I first heard of it. "Timothy Phillips" was an easy, enjoyable read I would recommend to anyone interested in keeping up the Christian lifestyle in the midst of temptation. I imagine it probably would appeal particularly to teens and young adults, as the main character is a young man who wins a music competition that propels him into fame and stardom.I expected the book to deal more with end-times issues. Besides a few things going on in the background and at the very end, the story could just as easily have taken place in today's era. I also sometimes got frustrated with the main character, who in the beginning came across as a little judgmental of the people around him.
Even though it is set in the end times, the story of Timothy Phillips has a lot of truth and encouragement for Christians today. Nice job, Mr. Ball.

Times of Rebellion A Christian Novel The End Times Saga Book 4 edition by Cliff Ball Religion Spirituality eBooks Reviews
Awsome
Awesome as always
Fast reading, some editions involve redemption of a single character, and how that redemption changes their eternal lives.
A good book from a religious standpoint. It told about the life of a relatively young person who made some poor choices. It did not deal much with "end times."
The premise of this story is a good one; an up-and-coming star wins a competition for a contract and a chance to become a celebrity. Will the new found fame affect his character? Oh, how quickly we can slip! This book really had a ton of promise, but here are my issues with it. First, it needs editing. Some examples are; many words are missing, there are some jumbled sentences, in one case where was used instead of we're. I realize this is a free book, and paying for an editor is not in the cards for many indie authors, but having a friend willing to help proofread can eliminate that problem. Beta readers can also proofread, if you ask them to. Secondly, there are some major timeline issues with the book. When you do books set in the future, be sure to have it mapped out when, where, and how a time reference fits with everything else. At one point in the book, Timothy said that his grandparents and parents remembered 9/11 and in another part of the book, one of the characters talks about "better music from Miley Cyrus", well maybe if she were in her 70's, or so judging by everything else in the book. My third and final quibble is that a lot of the book is written like a list. I don't want an entire book of just conversation, but there are ways of writing a sequence of events that don't feel boring. I will admit that by the end, I was skimming. It felt a bit like this; He went here and played, then went here and drove, and then he went here and did a show, finally ending up back here. Again, an editor could have helped flesh out those areas and asked the author to think of ways to make them fun and interesting to read. It kept my interest long enough to finish it, which I can't say about every indie book I pick up, so for that I give it three stars.
This book was a wonderful example of how quickly someone can turn from the Lord. If you start forsaking Bible reading/study and prayer, it doesn't take long to revert back to worldly ways.
We need to stay focused on God and His Word, so we will know the right things to do. Listen for that still small voice through God's Word and prayer. He will never steer you wrong.
I will start this review off by saying that I liked this story and that it is a book that's worth reading. As I read it I kept thinking that fans of the X-Factor, American Idol, and The Voice should be reading this one. Those shows are great entertainment but sometimes I wonder what goes on behind the scenes. I wonder how the winners deal with their new fame and I wonder how they are treated by the record companies. I know this story is fictional but it's the first one that I've read that even comes close to touching on the subject and I found that interesting.
Overall I found the main character to be a little frustrating in the sense that he tends to go along with everyone else's agenda but, in the end, that seems to be the lesson of this story. Christians ought to make a stand, and when they don't, well, bad things tend to happen.
This story is presented as a stand alone story and, for the most part, it works. However, as I read it there were some things going on that left me with the sense of needing more background. I found it slightly distracting but in a good way. It makes me want to read the other stories in this series.
There was one area of the story that I wasn't crazy about. Without giving too much away there is a moment in the story where the main character is no longer just a bystander but an actual participant in some of the 'bad' things that are happening around him. The only problem is that when it happens it happens fast and because it is never expressly shown that he has moved in this direction then it came as a small shock. It's not a deal breaker but i would've preferred to have been eased into it.
In the end, good writing, good story, and it should inspire others to stand strong in their beliefs.
