Firstly, I want to say Dylan is probably in my top ten heroes list. Not only did he pull of the "bad boy" thing with Marco well, I like hearing his side of things throughout the story. It's hard to say what exactly made me like Dylan, but the fact that he had motives and a clear backstory really adds to his appeal.
Next, I want to express my gratitude to Susan Bischoff for writing such a good story. I don't want to give you any false pretense of a "perfect story"--because really such a thing doesn't exist-- but I will say that I think this story followed the description and that us in my opinion worthy of at least two stars.
The other three stars were earned by Joss' clear character development. At the beginning of the book she's a shy and meek girl who is tortured by the loss of her only friend years later. However, by the end she is looked up to by her peers and determined to make a difference.

I found this book to be quite exciting with the secrets and the blackmailing, but found that some parts were just kind of slow to me. I liked that there was a big antagonist against the main chracter. The antagonist fueled more of my hate for him through his actions against the main character, Joss, and others. It put a lot of drama and tension that kept this book intersting. I also liked that the author wrote the book with two point of views. That aspect pulled me in even more becuase I got to see the sides of the two main characters, Dylan and Joss. This book also kind of has a Hunger Games similarity to it because there is a government that is ruling over everyone. This government also seems to focus on the children because the book doesn't seem to talk about adults with powers. Another part that can be compared to the Hunger Games is when the governement takes the children away from their families. I can't wait to read the next book
For a quick read with lots of action, HUSH MONEY is a fun and enticing paranormal YA novella. Bischoff does a fine job jumping right into the story.. Some people have "Talents" or supernatural abilities and being found out to be one of those somebodys will get you haled off by NIAC (National Institutes for Ability Control) and stuck in a government-run research facility, to never be seen or heard from again. In a town that seems to have more "Talents" then most others, keeping off the radar is a priority in order to survive.

The first person narration smoothly jumps back and forth between the two leads, Joss and Dylan. Joss is a loaner who has been conditioned by her father to blend, "don't stand out", "be normal", "never reveal that you're a Talent"; in an attempt to keep herself and her family safe. Dylan is a bad boy type who, along with his buddies, has been using their Talents to commit petty crimes. As their two's lives become entangled and more, and more Talents at their high school are revealed, danger seams to become a constant in these young people's lives.... who can be trusted?.. who's watching?..is anyone safe?

With a pretty straightforward plot, HUSH MONEY has a similar vibe to it as THE CANDIDATES by Inara Scott, but with more of a superhero twist and what feels to be a younger reader intended.
Bischoff has created a fascinating world with this first installment of young adult fiction, producing lots of action and danger, great characters, a little romance, and good pacing; making for an easy enjoyable read and a promising start for the Talent Chronicles series. The good, but abrupt ending is sure to leave readers jonesing for the next book.
Because I'm always hoping to luck upon a literary diamond amongst the cubic zirconias of the world, I've been reading a lot of the cheap/bargain e-books lately.

And a lot of them, despite the GLOWING reviews on here have sucked the proverbial thousand year old egg.
Bad editing, brain numbingly irritating characters and crappy plotline had begun to make me a little wary of pulling the trigger, even if it's only .99

And I would like the give Susan Bischoff a resounding golf clap for restoring my faith in the " Bargain e-book"

I happened along a excerpt of "Heroes Till Curfew" ad the end of another e-book. And I liked it, it grabbed me. So I tottered on off to to look it up.
I discovered it was the second in the talent series. This, Hush Money being the first.

So I cued this up deciding I'd pull the trigger on the second after I'd slogged through a bit of this one. it was only .99 cents after all.

HELLOOOO Awesome.

If you're on the fence, or if like me you've been burned by other sludgy YA books lately. This book is good, really good, like almost super awesome good.

Ms. Bischoff has assembled an amazing assortment of characters, both good and bad.
The storyline zips along with the perfect amount of suspense and action. With the perfect amount of heart and budding romance. I queued up the next one immediately upon finishing this one last night. And have already finished that one (which is even more amazing if possible)

Not since Angelfall (Penryn & the End of Days, Book 1) by Susan Ee, have I been in such fan girl squee over an author.

Seriously, go buy this book, and the second one.
