I would have liked Ireland a little more condensed and coming to and being in the US expanded. I also would have liked to have seen the book circle back to the beginning where the main character is now elderly and writing her story instead of just ending where it did. Other than that, it was an enjoyable read. A few errors in the kindle version but nothing major.

Predictable but an intriguing tale just the same. The hardships the early immigrants endured are fairly well documented here. I thought the stories of the "laners" to be the most interesting part of the tale.
A must read for all whose grandparents, aunts, uncles, and other family members were part of the immigration experience in this country. The author pulls the reader into the lives of these young people trying to survive the harsh realities of their world.

I'll admit I am not usually a reader of historical novels, but this one kept me turning the page to find out what happens next to Clare and her brothers. I highly recommend it!
I am not finishing this book! I am at 25% on my and it's sooooooo slow that I have totally lost any interest in the story. End of story!
I enjoyed this book so much I purchased it for my daughter. It expressed the trials and life of what most likely her great, great grandparents might have somehow experienced as emmigrants coming to this country. Even if your family was not from Ireland, Clare is a universal story so worth reading and sharing with the younger generation.
