I am a Shayla Black fan... to be honest - Shayla is what got me into the "good stuff" if you know what I mean... but with this book I took a little personal because being African American I was excited to see how she would handle it. Okay - my problem is why did Nia have to be this "experienced" girl.... like i felt it made her come off as slutty and she got this wholesome inexperienced "white boy" who wants to marry her. Like i dont know - it rubbed me the wrong way. Why the black girl had to be with lots of guys cause she knew how to give a blow job... i just felt it came off in a wrong light for Nia - when all her other "white female" characters come off as pure and wholesome. I was a little offended.

More Than Crave You More Than Words Book 4 edition by Shayla Black Contemporary Romance eBooks Reviews

FINAL DECISION My favorite of the series because of the geeky, socially awkward, hero who is the voice of the book and the woman who opens up his world.

THE STORY Evan Cook is a successful tech entrepreneur and owner of his own company, but he is not as good at personal relationships. After his wife and unborn child die in an accident, Evan eventually realizes that he needs a wife to help him and wants to remarry, but has no desire to love again. Instead, he asks his assistant, Nia Wright, to help him find the right woman. But one night forces Evan to see that Nia is a woman who calls to every part of him. Now Evan wants to marry Nia, but Nia wants a man to love and who will love her.

OPINION I've enjoyed this series, but this book is my favorite. The hero is awkward socially -- especially romantically -- and has that cute geeky feel. I especially liked that this social ineptitude is combined with a successful career. Evan is frustrating at times, clueless at others, and cute and endearing. He's a man who has only been with one woman (his wife) and is threatened by Nia's experience. I especially enjoyed that part of the story as Evan has to confront his feelings and then overcome them.

Since the story is told primarily from Evan's point of view, Nia is a more mysterious character, but she is also more emotionally open and well-adjusted than Evan and so she is upfront about her feelings and emotions so readers get a good sense of her character and motives. She is comfortable with herself and knows what she wants. Part of that comfort is with her sexuality and that drives Evan crazy (he has a hard time at first coming to terms with a woman who understands and appreciates her own identity as a sexual being).

I enjoyed the storyline in this book which is focused on the couple with some intriguing events on the side. But this story is really about Evan having to confront himself, his past and his emotional core. This is combined with some hot, hot scenes between Evan and Nia.

One other issue with the book is that it is an interracial romance (Evan is white and Nia is African-American). This isn't a central part of the story and I was a bit disappointed by that because I think the story could have been deeper by discussing the complexity of interracial relationships. I love interracial romances and this one was good in many ways, but I think it could have gone deeper into the issues the two will face.

I really did enjoy this book. Evan is clueless in a cute way. Nia is strong and assertive and doesn't defer to Evan even though he is her boss as the book begins. This book serves as a nice counterpoint to the 1980s boss and secretary books. Evan is a control freak, and Nia is definitely not a woman who is going to allow herself to be bullied by a man. There is an equality and balance between these characters that makes their interactions stimulating -- especially as Evan explores his own sexual needs.

A good addition to the series and I look forward to reading more.

WORTH MENTIONING There is a cameo from THEIR VIRGIN HOSTAGE.

CONNECTED BOOKS MORE THAN CRAVE YOU is the fourth book in the More Than Words series. The romance here is self-contained and can be read as a standalone. There are recurring characters, however, and the familial relationship between them makes the books better when read in order.

STAR RATING I give this book 4.5 stars.

NOTE I received a copy of this book from the author in order to prepare a review. I was not required to write a review or to write a positive review. All opinions contained herein are my own.
you know what, i like this author. i love her Wicked Lovers series and honestly she was the catalyst that helped me understand that my craving for more spice in life was really BDSM, like i wish i could thank her personally for that. In all the years that I've been reading her books, and re reading them, even if i didn't like the stories, i still remained a loyal reader, i NEVER once saw her write about a black woman or a black man. it was annoying when she's written about so many characters with different backgrounds, but none of them were black and here this book comes. i was excited... until i realized that she made Nia biracial... ok, close enough, keep reading. Then i realized that she essentially couldn't get enough of making Nia out to be some overtly sexualized slut and Evan this paragon of a person who lacks sexual experience. every other page was pretty much a complaint of how sexual Nia was and how Evan had no experience, it was evan CONSTANTLY complaining about her past experiences as if she's not a young, successful, beautiful woman who enjoys life while he put his on hold for his dead wife that he didn't even love. Hell he didn't even notice Nia until he saw her strip in a Burlesque show (which by the way, another strike against this author for further solidifying her point in making nia look as much like a whore as possible). Then there was this random line in the book where Shayla decides to describe a redheaded man as just a ginger "When I knowck twice on the glass, a ginger with a bushy beard..." SERIOUSLY!?!?! is that the only way you could describe him??? as just a ginger?

the only reason i gave this 2 stars is because in spite of the author's attempt to make this woman be a whore compared to her "perfect" white female heroines, Nia holds her own and is unapologetic about who she is and her experience. but Screw evan and his narrow mind and his attempts to be a slut shaming @ss!

horridly, ironically enough this author has one other book with a black female lead... it's one of the crappy menage books where she has 3 lovers. So that lets me know that Shayla only things of black females as EXTREMELY sexual creatures (such as when we were called jezebels and hottentots back in the day), this would be ok if her white female characters were given the same treatment as opposed to them being these prudish, innocent creatures with sexual men. it's even more aggravating because when i had interactions with Shayla on facebook, she got defensive to my questions and after she was called out a few times on her lack of diverse characters that don't fall into harmful stereotypical tropes.
I question why make the heroine a black woman if you are not going to attempt to create a dimensional character. All this author did was reinforce the same tired stereotypes. So the black chick is the slut among all these pure innocent lily white people and also made her cousin a slut too. It like she made a checklist of every stereotype possible, checking things off one by one ; stripper check, allergic to birth control check, big booty check, pregnant the first time she has sex check, the list go on. I new it was going to be bad when Nia was described as exotic which is like saying oh she pretty for a black girl. You got a virginal white man fetishizing his black experience Secretary that he has to hit it from the back because all black woman love that and of course beat her because that's just in his DNA.
I am a Shayla Black fan... to be honest - Shayla is what got me into the "good stuff" if you know what I mean... but with this book I took a little personal because being African American I was excited to see how she would handle it.
